Liisa Vitali
Liisa Vitali (1918-1987)
Liisa
Vitali created her first handmade jewelry designs in a small workshop
on the family farm in Somero Viluksela, Finland. Her interest in jewelry
design began when she entered and won a small school competition. This
first handcrafted jewelry set, consisting of a ring, necklace, and
bracelets, marked the beginning of a succesful career as a designer.
Within a few years, her designs, popularity spread throughout Europe and
on to Asia, even garnering praise from Britain's Princess Margaret. At
the height of production, Vitali became ill while traveling to promote
her designs in Singapore and died soon after.
Enthusiasm for Vitali's mid-century
modern jewelry designs has experienced a revival, prompting Finnish company
Kultakeskus
Oy, which specializes in production
of precious metal designs, to begin reproducing a limited set of Vitali jewelry
designs in 2009.
